Fraser River Park - Steveston

For the last day of the Vancouver Tour, members head south
to the Richmond Delta and Fraser River Park.

The delta area is very flat farming land surrounded by dikes
on three sides to protect it from the ocean tides.

When Hong Kong was turned back to China 20 years ago
many residents migrated to Vancouver and settled in Richmond.

Thus the delta has a distinctive Asian Culture along
with many quaint ocean side eateries.

The mouth of the Fraser River splits around the delta with largest
ocean liners and freight ships entering the southern branch.

From here vessels continue upstream to inland ports
like Port Mann and Port Coquitlam to load and unload cargo.

Along with the fishing industry and Asian Culture, the Richmond delta
is noted for scenic sanctuaries like the George C. Reifel Bird Sanctuary.

Cycling the delta is a wonderful way to finish
a touring weekend in Vancouver, BC.
